Some of our book customers have asked to have their book manuscripts formatted for use on the Amazon Kindle.
Formatting a book for the Kindle is essentially a matter of converting the page layout files or PDFs into HTML and then tweaking that HTML so the final result looks good on Kindle devices. There are also usability issues to consider when formatting a book for Kindle. You want to make sure the various parts of the book — the cover, the start of the text, and table of contents, for example — are properly linked so they can be accessed from the Kindle's menu. Also, you will want to set up a special Table of Contents file so Kindle users can use the 5-way controller to quickly move from chapter to chapter in your Kindle ebook.
Amazon's Digital Text Platform site provides a starting point for information on Kindle formatting, but we have found that it takes a little more than basic HTML knowledge to create a presentable Kindle ebook.
Please let us know if you'd like your book formatted for the Kindle or any other eBook format. We'll do what we can to help.
